Durham, England – The Durham Wedding Planning Association has unveiled a video designed to help guests prepare for their wedding and help them to make the best possible decision for their family and loved ones.
The video, called “The Durham Weddings Guide”, shows the first steps of planning the wedding of Durban’s first and only African-American woman, Rachel C. Johnson.
Johnson was married in Durham in March 2013 to John and Darrick Sacks.
The couple and their family had lived in the city for more than 20 years, before moving to the US to pursue a career as a stay-at-home mom.
Johnson, who has been living in the US for more the last five years, has lived in Durban since 2003.
The Durban Wedding Planning Alliance, a partnership between the Durham Chamber of Commerce and the Durban Association of Women, says that the video, which will be featured on its website and social media channels, will help guests make informed choices about the ceremony and their own future.
“We want to make sure that our guests are fully aware of the different aspects of their wedding including their chosen venue, the number of guests, the wedding menu, dress styles, reception attire, food, transportation and more,” the association said.
“The Durkan wedding guide will also help guests plan for the reception of their guests in the best way possible, and also provide information on how to arrange transportation and the best options for the host of your reception.”
Johnson said that she is proud of the association’s efforts.
“I’m so happy to be part of this great association and hope that we can help all our guests make the right choice,” she said.
The Durkans are the first in the UK to have an African-British woman married to a white man, following the marriage of Robert F. Hall.
